“Finding the Perfect Wave” by Cheri Miklich – Debut #YA Novel Gets 5 Stars

Following the life of a surfer girl from Huntington Beach, CA who feels out of place when her family is relocated to the Arizona desert, "Finding the Perfect Wave" tells the story of 17-year-old Alli Whitton. Alli’s senior year of high school is full of triumph and tragedy as she seeks to overcome the loss of a loved one and find her place far away from the familiar waves of the Pacific.

Miklich is also a southern California native who moved to Arizona, and she said the title of the book reflects her main character’s struggle. “It’s symbolic of what she has to go through in her normal life, and the wave can be whatever you want it to be,” she said. Miklich said she never got on a surf board herself when she was young but was fascinated by the culture surrounding it. “I was always intrigued by surfing,” she said, “I always looked out on the surfers at the beach and imagined being one.”
